The symposium brought together researchers, engineers and practitioners working across hydrology, hydraulic engineering, water management and environmental sciences. Its programme addressed current challenges in flood-risk management, climate adaptation, water infrastructure and sustainable water-resource planning, offering an important forum for international scientific exchange.

During the symposium, Martina Zelenakova of the Technical University of Košice (TUKE) contributed to the scientific programme with the presentation “Assessment of Hydrological Risks in Hornad River Basin”, co-authored with P. Nagy and K. Kubiak-Wójcicka. The contribution was included in the session dedicated to climate change and flood-risk management. The topic aligns closely with CERMA’s approach to understanding hydrological hazards through case-study-based analysis and scientific assessment, supporting a more informed understanding of flood exposure and water-related risks.

The presentation provided an opportunity to connect CERMA’s areas of interest with the wider scientific discussion on hydrological risks and climate resilience. Such exchanges help strengthen links between research and practical water management, while highlighting the importance of robust assessment methods in addressing environmental challenges. Through its work on environmental risk identification, hydrological modelling and preventive measures, CERMA aims to support the development of knowledge and skills that can contribute to more resilient communities and better-informed adaptation planning across Europe.

CERMA’s scientific focus was represented at the 19th International Symposium on Water Management and Hydraulic Engineering (WMHE 2026), held from 16-19 September 2026 in Opatija, Croatia.
